The Master Reset, Day 2: We Eat With Our Eyes First

Still standing after a day without meat, with a cabbage stir-fry that thinks it belongs on a five-star menu.

Colourful cabbage stir-fry with peppers and carrots beside herby air-fried sweet potato rounds

Hello from the land of the living! Thank goodness I didn’t lose consciousness in my sleep last night. Day 2 without meat, and I’m still standing.

I actually slept quite well. I made sure I had my chamomile tea before bed, and this morning I woke up ready to give this thing another go. Another day, another opportunity to show up for myself.

What’s on my plate

My first meal was a colourful cabbage stir-fry: finely sliced purple and green cabbage, sweet red and yellow peppers, carrots and red onion, tossed in a hot pan until just softened but still with a lovely bit of crunch. A little seasoning brought it all to life, and honestly, the colours alone were enough to make me hungry.

Sitting proudly beside it were thick rounds of sweet potato, coated in herbs and seasoning, then air-fried until caramelised at the edges and soft and naturally sweet in the middle. Savoury, crunchy vegetables with sweet, herby potatoes: simple food, absolutely delicious.

Nothing fancy, nothing expensive. Just ordinary ingredients from my kitchen, given a little love and attention.

We eat with our eyes first

I always tell my daughters that we eat with our eyes first. You can have the simplest meal in the world, but when you prepare it with care and present it beautifully on a clean plate, even cabbage starts behaving like it belongs on a five-star restaurant menu.

Even something as simple as preparing a meal for yourself can be an act of self-love.

So here’s my little encouragement for today: eating well doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Slice that cabbage nicely, season those sweet potatoes, play with a little colour and make yourself a beautiful plate of food. There is something special about doing ordinary things with intention.

We’re only on Day 2, so I’m certainly not here to preach to anybody. I’m just a woman trying to keep the promises she made to herself, one meal at a time.

Here’s to showing up again today. We bloom in the little things too.
