The Master Reset, Day 3: Leftovers on a Second Shift

Three days in, nobody has called an ambulance, and the beans have made a grand return. The bacon downstairs is another matter.

Ladies and gentlemen, your girl is still in the race. Three days in and nobody has had to call an ambulance. We thank God!

Leftovers on a second shift

Last night I made some gorgeous kidney beans, cooked in a thick tomato sauce with onions, peppers and herbs. Rich, savoury, properly seasoned. Today, those same beans made a grand return, this time with finely shredded white cabbage, carrots and peppers, all tossed together in a quick stir-fry.

Last night’s beans, before their second shift.

You see, in this kitchen, leftovers are not failures. They’re employees on a second shift.

And before anyone starts thinking this wellness journey requires a salary adjustment: please! It’s cabbage and beans, my sisters. Ordinary food, the kind many of us grew up eating. You don’t need an expensive shopping list to start taking better care of yourself. Start with what you have, make it taste good and serve it with love.

The bacon situation

Now, I would love to report that temptation has completely left my body, but that would be a lie before God. There are detractors downstairs frying bacon, and the smell has travelled all the way upstairs to interfere with my green tea. At this point, I can practically taste bacon in every sip. The enemy is working overtime.

But so far, so good. We keep showing up. Not because it’s easy, and not because we have everything figured out, but because we made a commitment to ourselves.

Day 3, good sis. Still standing, still laughing, still blooming.
